    Pipili Appliqué Work

The Pipili applique work, also known as ‘Chandua’, originates in the town of Pipili and is one of Odisha’s most popular crafts. Appliqué is a French technique that involves cutting up several coloured fabrics and sewing them to the surface of another foundation cloth. In Pipili, it has now evolved into a needlework technique in which smaller pieces of fabric materials, such as little mirrors and other forms of embroidery, are sewed onto a larger piece of cloth.

    TRIBAL ART

The long chain of antiquity and culture can be seen expressed in the tribal arts of Odisha. The art is a reflection of the dominant tribal population of the State of Odisha. It is the tribal culture, social life, beliefs, and religion that are presented through this art form. One of the very popular forms of tribal paintings is the Saura paintings. An exhibition of the above art forms is on display throughout the year at the Ekamra Haat and Kalabhoomi of Bhubaneswar city.

Presently, the silver filigree workers are largely from the district of Cuttack, where the art flourishes. In Cuttack there are many places where one would find artisans and shops dealing with filigree works. Some popular shopping avenues for purchasing Filigree Works are located on Janpath Road in Bhubaneswar and in Naya Sarak Area in the city of Cuttack.
